What we see happening today, partially as a function of change velocity, is a significant overlap in what previously were disparate disciplines. For instance, never before has CXO, customer experience optimization, been so important to search (SEO). Of course, CXO is directly related to UX Design which is related to a plethora of disciplines in the venn diagram below. Steven Johnson, in 'Where Good Ideas Come From' makes the point that 'chance favors the connected mind', and good design favors healthy collaboration, as no single person can be adept in all of these disciplines.
